There are many themes, or morals, in the book " The Giver". Some of them are love, individuality, and vision. However, my favorite theme of the story is memory. In the book the Giver is the holder of all the memories of the past. The other people in the community have no memory of what has happened before them and know nothing of their history. They know nothing of physical pain, but therefore also know nothing of love. As this is displayed in the book, the significance of memory stands out. The book really makes the reader appreciate all we know and can understand about ourselves and what we can experience in the world. Our memories are one of the most important things we have and can never truly lose. In the book the people are not only stripped of this privilege, but don't even know they're missing out on it. Through and through, the moral of the book is to appriciate and cherish memories whether they are good, or bad because they are something we always have with us.
