Summary
The book "The Giver" takes place in a Utopian society A lot of things in the society are different from our society. In the society that Jonas lives in nobody experiences pain, hurt, war, anything horrible or morbid. However, in order to live like this they also have to sacrifice things such as love, happiness, and even color. People in today's world might say it's not worth giving up all the good things in life even to get rid of the bad, but the people in "The Giver" don't even know what it's like to live any other way than without. Although there is still on person who knows of it all and that is the Giver himself. The Giver of the community has to keep all the memories from the past. His or her mind is filled with love, hate, happiness, sadness, peace, war and everything in between, When Jonas is assigned to be the new Giver he has to learn and receive a lot of information or "memories". Through out the book Jonas's views of his own society change drastically.All in all, the book "The Giver" focuses around a Utopian society and how different it really is.
